I accept piano students age 5 and up. I work with beginners and advanced pianists as well. Lesson are held in my studio, the Goehner Moreno Piano Studio, located in Atchison, Kansas. Lessons are private and I teach using the classical method of note reading. We'll explore various styles of music and the pace will depend on the commitment and capabilities of each student.
PIANO STUDIO PHILOSOPHY
As an experienced concert pianist and piano teacher, Laura Goehner-Moreno supports a variety of classic teaching approaches with note reading as the basis. Lessons encompass piano technique, piano repertoire and various degrees of music theory. Her main goal as a teacher is to develop a good sense of musicianship in each student: fine rhythm is foremost, learning a proper playing technique, producing a beautiful tone and being attentive to detail. Students learn to interpret a variety of musical styles as they explore various repertoire. Outside of their lessons, students are expected to practice regularly, with discipline, at home. In this way students learn to play pieces with proficiency and, in doing so, they gain musical knowledge, satisfaction, and self-esteem, which enables them to enjoy the process of learning a piece, growing musically and loving music.
IN-STUDIO PIANO PERFORMING OPORTUNITIES
During the year, students of Laura Goehner-Moreno’s Piano Studio have the experience of playing the piano for other listeners. There are informal piano parties where students meet one another and have fun playing their pieces in front of their peers. Once a year (in May or June), there is a formal recital where students play formally for parents and other friends. There may be opportunities to play in retirement homes as well.
Laura Goehner-Moreno, originally from Kansas, received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Piano Performance from the University of Kansas, and continued post-graduate studies at the National Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland. She studied regularly with Professor Jack Winerock at the University of Kansas, and also studied with the famed pianist Claude Frank for seven years in master classes. Her later studies were with the renowned pianist Sequeira Costa, with whom she studied for five years. Mrs. Goehner-Moreno has performed numerous piano concerts in The US and Mexico, and has recorded a CD of classical Mexican piano music and another CD with her own compositions. Her piano teaching experience encompasses thirty-two years. She is owner/teacher of the Goehner Moreno Piano Studio and serves as Adjunct Piano Faculty at Benedictine College.
